The History
Landmark architecture by Munkenbeck+ Marshall four separate buildings situated around a central courtyard and sculpture garden, with a canal side walk way, bridges and a café restaurant. The original Gainsborough red brick building, maintained and revived as a modern film studio, will form a dynamic, working core of the development.
Brad Pitt was on set here for a new film from the
director of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Ralph Fiennes recites
Shakespeare in the once derelict studios. Super models strut their
stuff, whilst The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Bjork play
to the audience - Gainsborough Studios is now the cutting edge venue
for British Fashion week, and has also hosted music industry awards
ceremonies.
Draw a line between the creative hub and media
centre of Old Street, and the lively restaurants and bars of Islington,
and slap bang in the middle of it all is Gainsborough Studios. On
one side of you, Hoxton Square and the birthplace of Brit Art, on
the other, the shiny glass edifices of the City of London.
Gainsborough Studios is within easy walking distance of the restaurant meccas
and hip hang outs of both Islington and Clerkenwell. The clubs
and bars of Shoreditch and Hoxton are even closer to its doorstep.
